This 3-part balanced literacy series will explore the different aspects of a comprehensive literacy program. Session one will focus on whole class and small group reading strategies or approaches such as shared reading, guided reading and literature circles. Session two will examine methods for teaching writing using mentor text, the Write Traits and/or writer’s workshop and story workshop. Session three will explore word work and alternatives to spelling lists, as well as the importance of oral language and communication skills through all the different age groups. Formative assessment practices to inform and drive instruction will be embedded in each session.
Each session will begin together as a whole group and then break out into smaller grade group sessions (K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8) for grade specific learning and collaboration. Each session will be practical and will feature free, quality resources to take away! Sessions are limited to 100 registrants and will take place in regions making it more convenient for teachers to attend
Be sure to register for the Lori Jamison kick-off events September 26 and January 30 for primary or September 27 and January 31 for intermediate and middle.
